FAQs
What is the relationship between Winyama and Yarnda Foundation?
1
Winyama and Yarnda Foundation are two distinct organisations.
Yarnda Foundation grew from Winyama’s social impact program, the Indigenous Mapping Workshop Australia. In 2025, we recognised that the program had grown beyond our capacity and would benefit from its own dedicated team and mission.
Winyama is proud to be a delivery partner of Yarnda Foundation and remains committed to empowering Mob with geospatial skills so they can uphold their communities rights and interests.

Will you still be running the Indigenous Mapping Workshop (IMW)?
2
I have an active/existing project with Winyama that includes training. What happens now?
How is information shared between the two organisations?
No. The program will continue to flourish at Yarnda Foundation where they will keep the flavour and purpose that the IMW has always had, while continuing to grow into other areas of digital literacy.
We will still be involved in future workshops, but as a delivery partner, not as your host.
Do you still offer training?
3
Winyama will no longer provide general geospatial training that was typical to expect at our Indigenous Mapping Workshops. This is the gap that Yarnda Foundation will continue to fill, while we will be focused on what we do best: geospatial system design, technical support, and cultural mapping.
Why is this arrangement a better fit for our Mob?

How does this affect Winyama’s day-to-day operations?
You get a team with 100% focus. We will be able to provide bespoke services without competing priorities. At the same time, Yarnda Foundation can focus entirely on introductory training and social impact programs.
A few members of our operational team will transition to Yarnda Foundation to continue their work in training and social impact.
What if I need both technical systems and staff training?
Your project remains the same, and Winyama will continue to support your outstanding training initiatives to close it out.
In the future, should you be looking for introductory training in geospatial software and digital tools, we will connect you with Yarnda Foundation.
Indigenous data sovereignty is our top priority.
Winyama and Yarnda Foundation operate as distinct entities with separate data management protocols. Your data remains with Winyama under our strict security frameworks.
You might have seen an email about signing up for the Yarnda Foundation newsletter. If you want to stay in the loop with them, you will need to subscribe to their mailing list.
That’s the benefit of our partnership! We often work in tandem.
Winyama can build and onboard you to the mapping dashboards, tools and systems your organisation needs, while Yarnda Foundation can provide culturally safe training to ensure your team knows how to drive it.
We will coordinate the introductions to ensure you have a unified strategy from day one.
